MORE OSPREY INFO

HOW LONG DO THEY SIT ON THE EGGS?

Approximately 36-42 days. Osprey typically lay 1-3 eggs per season. Incubation is approximately 36-42 days and is done primarily by the female, but the male will assist while the female is eating fish that the male has brought her. Noting: Sturgeon Lake is just across the road so it is a short flight to get a nice fish before returning to nest to eat it. The osprey chicks should hatch about the first/second week of June.

DO THEY RETURN TO SAME NEST EACH YEAR?

Ospreys have a high nest-site fidelity and return to previously existing nest structures each year. The ospreys returning to this nest we are now calling Ralph and Grace in true respect for the dedicated couple that owned and created the osprey nest and initial live website (with assistance from neighbors Terry and Dianne ).
